Here’s How to Refresh Your Laundry Room in 5 Easy Steps
Nobody likes doing laundry, and a dark or dreary laundry room doesn’t help matters. DIY expert Veronique Rouleau had just such a room. The colours were faded, the lighting was poor, and the whole place always seemed to look cluttered. Time and budget would not allow for a complete laundry room renovation. So she set to work on a laundry room refresh with some new paint, wallpaper, and cabinetry. Follow along to see how Veronique transformed her laundry room from old to outstanding with some cost-effective, cosmetic changes.

Here’s How to Make It
Our laundry room doubles as our pantry, and it was in need of a total transformation. On the pantry side, the cabinets were all open and we really wanted to close some of them off to create a cleaner look and feel. On the laundry side, the cabinets were dull, and the drywall backsplash was less than ideal. So we took a trip to our local Home Hardware where we got all the materials to bring this room to life!
Step 3: Installing the Backsplash
Our day-to-day laundering sees a lot of water and moisture get thrown up on the wall behind our washer and dryer. We wanted a backsplash area that was easy to clean and wouldn’t fall victim to mould or mildew. Peel and stick vinyl tiles were the perfect solution! They’re thicker than wallpaper and have the texture and colour of ceramic or porcelain wall tiles. They look fantastic are way less expensive than traditional tile. We chose this beautiful white subway tile backsplash and applied it the same way we did our peel and stick wallpaper.
We are absolutely in love with our new laundry room. The new paint and peel & stick wallpaper added a ton of character, and the new backsplash and cabinets made the space much more functional. I’m thinking I might just have to move into this room now! Our local Home Hardware was a source of inspiration and assistance throughout this project. They were always friendly, and always on hand with tools and materials we needed.
