Some bathroom repairs and alterations are easier than others, but tackling smaller jobs is a good place to start. For example, a clogged shower drain can usually be removed with a screwdriver for quick cleaning. If the p-trap under your sink is clogged, you can loosen the pipe fitting with a pipe wrench and clear the blockage. If you need to replace the fitting, make sure the material matches the water pipe material. ABS, plastic, and PVC pipes are all commonly found in bathrooms.
Faucet and sink repairs can be a bit trickier. Sink stoppers are universal, but replacement faucet cartridges and faucet aerators need to match the originals. You’ll also want to keep some plumbing repair supplies on hand. That includes hose clamps, plumber’s tape, plumber’s putty, joint compound and pipe cement. Before starting any repair, be sure to turn off the water shutoff valve. Most important of all, don’t start a job unless you’re confident you can finish it. When in doubt, call a plumber!
