Baseboard Thermostats

Control Your Baseboard Heater with a Baseboard Thermostat

Baseboard heaters require no ductwork, which makes them a popular choice for older homes, especially for providing supplemental heat to individual rooms. Plug-in portable baseboard heaters are available which usually feature an integrated baseboard heater thermostat. You can also find hardwired units that are tied into the circuitry of your home. These can have the thermostat mounted on the heater for a built-in look, or mounted on the wall for easier access. A wall-mounted thermostat will also provide a more accurate temperature reading because it’s further away from the heat source.

One important consideration is choosing between single pole and double pole models. Single pole thermostats can’t be turned off because the current only flows one way. It will typically turn on around 7°C) which can prevent a room from freezing when the outdoor temperature falls below zero. Just remember to remove any items on or near your heater to prevent a fire hazard. Some homeowners prefer a double pole thermostat because it does feature an ‘off’ setting. This makes it safer, but you’ll need to turn the unit on manually when heat is required.
