Whether you’re fishing for food or sport, it’s important to have the right fishing tackle. That starts with choosing the right fishing rod and fishing reel (or rod and reel combo). A spincast reel is affordable, easy to use, and avoids line twisting. A spinning reel requires a little more technique, but it’s more versatile and allows you to cast further distances. Depending on the fish that are available, you’ll also need the right kind of fishing line and fishing lures. If you’re going after specific fish, consider a trout fishing rod or bass fishing rod. A good tackle box is also essential—just make sure it’s big enough to hold all your fishing gear.
The hunting seasons are relatively short, so you want to have all your hunting gear ready in advance. That includes snare wire, live animal traps, and trail cameras. A hunting knife and multitool always come in handy, and if you’re going deep into the bush you’ll want a machete. For safety, always wear a bright orange hunting vest and cap so you’re easily visible to other hunters. If you’re hunting in bear country, be sure to have a strong bear repellent readily accessible.
