Like all contractors, Craig has noticed that the codes have changed and that houses are being built tighter all the time. “I have no problem building better. And better and better. But it adds to the price tag. A house that cost $450,000 five years ago, that same house now goes for $1-million to $1.2-million!”
Again, the house prices have been driven by Covid. When people started to work remotely, Craig said that it was reported that 40,000 people left Montreal to move to the Laurentians.
When it comes to his home improvement store, Craig says he is partial to the Riopel Centre de Rénovation Home Hardware in nearby Sainte-Adèle. “First of all, I like to buy Canadian. But what ultimately got me to shop there was their service. Their word is golden. Their handshake—that’s all we need. That’s what it’s all about, old school values.”
