In-floor heating comes in two major versions. Hydronic systems use hot water delivered within or under the floor through pipes, while electric in-floor heating uses high-resistance wires embedded in the floor to deliver heat. The approach that makes the most sense depends partially on the size of area you want to heat.
Entire homes, large areas in a home, or installations where floor heat is expected to warm the entire space, is best done hydronically. For smaller spaces, or where heating an entire room is not needed, it makes more sense to use an electric system. How do you decide which approach makes sense for a given client? That’s where cost estimates come in.
