Michel also notices an increasing interest in metal roofs. But he points out that not all house designs are suited for a metal roof—and they do come with a higher cost. Black window frames are a trend right across the country and Michel says about 75 percent of his clients want them. And finally, the different array of siding finishes has recently given Michel more options for customers—both in steel and PVC.
Michel was born in Saint-Antoine, about a half-hour north of the Moncton area, and came to the city when he started in construction. His wife is his “advisor,” Michel says proudly. The various first names in his family were used to decide on “Makor” as a company name. It’s a tradition that has spread across North America and is considered good luck.
Luck is something that Michel Cormier doesn’t seem to need, though. He favours precision, accuracy, and the stellar treatment of customers.
Speaking of the stellar treatment of customers, Michel has high praise for his local Downey Home Hardware Building Centre in Riverview, just south of Moncton. “I’ve been with them since I started Makor and there are reasons I’m still with them,” he says. “All the people there, they really know what they’re talking about. If there’s an issue, it gets quickly resolved. They’ve been so good to me. Customer service is everything to them, just like it is with my customers, too.”
