A little fall prep work will help ensure a great looking yard come spring. Use a rake to evenly spread fall leaves over your grass, then mulch them up with a final cut from your lawn mower. The mix of leaves and grass clippings will provide valuable nitrogen, which you can augment with some grass seed and winter lawn fertilizer. You should, however, clean up your paths and driveway. Use a weed eater to clear the stone edges and a leaf blower to remove loose debris, then blast the surface with a pressure washer. Your trees and shrubs need attention too. Wrap delicate bushes in burlap to protect against the elements, and use a chainsaw to remove any weak branches that could break and damage your home.
Be sure to tidy up your storage shed and organize your garage as well. You’ll want to have easy access to your snow blower and snow shovels. You might also want to make space for a portable generator in case a storm knocks the power out. Once the yard work is done, remember to check the weather stripping around doors and windows to keep your home comfy through winter.
