Find the Nailer that’s Right for Your Household Projects

Nailers (also called nail guns) are versatile tools that can make your nailing tasks go much faster and easier. A nailer can be either battery or air powered. Cordless nailers offer portability, but the battery packs make them heavier and they cost a little more. An air nailer fires nails more quickly, but you’ll need a compressor to drive the tool. Different types of nailers are suitable for different jobs. A finishing nailer is ideal for most work around the house as it can accommodate a wide variety of nail sizes. A Brad nailer is great for working with thin materials like trim and moulding because it uses thin 18-gauge nails that leave very small holes. A pin nailer takes it a step further, using ultra-thin 23-gauge headless pins—a great choice for cabinetry and upholstery.

For heavier duty projects like building a deck or fence, you’ll want a framing nailer, which can use up to 3½-inch coil or strip nails. A roofing nailer is designed specifically for applying shingles. Flooring nailers are also purpose-built, employing L-shaped cleat nails that are less damaging to the floor than using a hammer and nails. A palm nailer can be held in one hand and is a great option for nailing in small spaces where a regular nailer won’t fit.

Inspiration is always handy
