You’ve got your primer, your paint, and all your brushes and rollers, so you should be ready to go, right? Not quite. A few key painting accessories can make the work go easier, and your paint job look better. Multiple paint buckets and paint trays are a must if you’re using more than one colour, or if you’ve got a crew of helpers. You’ll also want some paint tray liners for switching up between coats. Extra paint cans are also useful if you’re using old paint and need to strain out impurities. Tack cloths are great for removing dust and dirt prior to painting. If you’re painting the ceiling, a paint roller extension pole will keep you safely off the ladder. A paint pad will eliminate roller spray and can also reach better into corners, but remember that it needs a paint pad applicator to operate. A paint edger is also a useful tool as it can reduce the amount of taping required.
Make sure to cover floors and furniture with drop cloths, and keep cleaning rags handy for any wayward drops and splashes. Painter’s coveralls will protect your clothes when painting ceilings or high walls, and shoe covers are recommended for any paint job. Painter’s gloves are also a good idea as you won’t have to waste time scrubbing up for lunch, dinner, or other breaks.
