Plastic storage containers are great for storing just about anything, but you need to take a few rough measurements before shopping. First, make sure the plastic bins you get are big enough to hold everything you need. Second, make sure they’ll fit in the space you have at hand. Consider using colour as a contents cue: for example, blue storage bins for cloths, black storage bins for sports gear etc. That said, clear storage bins are the most popular because you can see what’s inside. This is especially helpful for storing tools, shoes, and pantry items. 

Open storage bins provide easy access, but make sure they have sturdy handles that won’t crack. Storage bins with lids are more practical, with options ranging from locking security lids to one-piece flip-tops. Gasket-style lids are also available to help keep moisture out (or liquid contents in). Any storage box with a lid can be stacked, but you can also find purpose-made stackable storage bins with custom-fit grooves for extra stability. If mobility is an issue, you can also find storage containers with wheels.
