Here’s How to Make a DIY Christmas Tree Box
Getting creative with the Christmas tree is part of the holiday fun. But bright lights and tinsel won’t hide the unappealing tree stand at the bottom. A decorative skirt is an easy fix but if you have young kids or pets, like DIY expert Keisha Boutilier, it can pose its own set of problems. This year she decided to build a Christmas tree box that would address the issue and dress up her tree as well! Follow her easy steps below to create your own Christmas tree box.

Here’s How to Do It
Decorating the tree is a Christmas tradition in our home, and that includes dressing up the base with a fabric tree skirt. Unfortunately, our dogs have also made it a tradition to rip it out, tear it apart, or simply push the presents aside and make it their bed for the night! This year we decided to solve the problem by building a wooden tree box that eliminates the skirt, hides the ugly metal stand, and adds some style to our tree. We found everything we needed for the project at our local Home Hardware. They were super friendly, and even pitched in with a few helpful design and build tips.
This project was so easy to pull together and quite honestly, the materials were minimal and budget-friendly—always a bonus. Our new Christmas tree box looks perfect under the tree! This piece will be in the family for many years to come. As time goes by, I think we might add some sentimental touches like our family name, the kids’ handprints, and maybe even a paw print or two—just for old time’s sake.
