Step #1: Remove Old Hardware
The first step in changing your front door hardware is to remove the old knob and deadbolt. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws holding the old knob and deadbolt in place. Once all screws are removed, pull the old hardware away from the door, taking care not to damage the door or surrounding area.
Step #2: Attach New Deadbolt and Handle Latches
With the old hardware removed, it's time to install the new deadbolt and handle latches. Before attaching them to the door, double-check that the back-set distance is the correct size. Adjust the latch if necessary to ensure a proper fit.
Carefully position the new deadbolt and handle latches on the door. Use the provided screws to attach the latches in place, ensuring they are aligned correctly and function smoothly.
Step #3: Install Front and Lock Pieces
Next, it's time to install the front and lock pieces of your new hardware. Begin by attaching the deadbolt pieces to the front piece, making sure they are positioned right side up. Line up the front piece with the lock piece and secure them together using the long-threaded screws included in your kit.
Step #4: Attach Handle Pieces
Now it's time to attach the handle pieces to complete the installation process. Slide the handle pins through the latch mechanism, adjusting the internal spindle if necessary to ensure a proper fit.
Once the handle pins are in place, attach the lever or knob to the handle, depending on the style of hardware you've chosen. Secure the bottom of the handle with the provided screw and pin, drilling a hole if necessary to ensure a snug fit.
Step #5: Replace Plates
The final step in changing your front door hardware is to replace the plates on the door frame. Carefully remove the old plates and replace them with the new ones included in your hardware kit.
Ensure that the plates are aligned properly and securely attached to the door frame to complete the upgrade. With the new hardware installed and the plates replaced, stand back and admire your refreshed front door!
