Here’s How
For this project, we’re creating a painted ombré wall with stripes of equal width. You can, however, vary the width of your stripes depending on the overall design you’re after. We used the colours Ostrich Tail, Fragrant, Snowbell, Velour, Imagine That, and Vivid Vision. Improvise and use your imagination to create your ideal painted accent wall – or completely ombré striped room.
Steps:
1. Assemble all the materials and tools for your project. Clean your walls and let them dry. Lay a drop cloth to protect your flooring and nearby furniture.
2. Measure the height of your wall and divide by five. This will be the height of each of your paint stripes. Mark the height of each stripe on the wall.
TIP: Typically, paint is sold based on square footage, so to determine how much paint you’ll need for each stripe, measure the length of each stripe and multiply that by its height.
3. Determine the colour order for your pattern. Using a level or laser level, tape the top, middle and bottom stripes. To do this, apply tape along the top and bottom of each of the three stripes. You will paint these first.
4. Paint the top, middle and bottom stripes. For a clean line, ensure you paint over the edge of the tape.
Let paint dry for at least 10 minutes before removing tape. Remove tape at an angle away from the painted stripe. Let painted stripes dry completely.
5. Once dry, tape along the edge of the painted stripes, covering the painted edge, so you can paint the two remaining stripes.
6. Paint the two remaining stripes. Let paint dry for at least 10 minutes before removing tape. Remove tape at an angle away from the painted stripe. Let painted stripes dry completely.
7. Touch up any areas that require it.
8. Your striped ombré wall is now complete. Enjoy!
