Here’s How
For this project, we’re using a basic ready-to-assemble (RTA) 36" x 24" x 13" cabinet, but you can use bridge cabinets of different sizes to suit your space and needs. If you do, you’ll just need to calculate and adjust the dimensions required for your lumber and toe kick pieces accordingly.
Steps:
1. Assemble all the materials and tools for your project.
2. Measure, mark and cut:
(2) pieces of plywood to 36" x 4.83"
(2) pieces of plywood to 24" x 4.83"
3. Build a rectangle base to raise the bridge cabinet. Take the four pieces of plywood and screw together. Set aside.
4. Assemblez l’armoire-pont prête à monter (PAM) en suivant les instructions du fabricant. Laissez de côté les deux panneaux de la porte avant, les charnières de la porte et la tablette intérieure.
5. Place the rectangle base in position and check that it is level.
6. Position the ready-to-assemble (RTA) bridge cabinet on top of the rectangle base, check that it's level and screw together.
7. Cut the toe kick to 36" to cover the front of the rectangle base (cut additional lengths if the sides of your cabinet are exposed). Cut fridge panel to 36" x 24" to cover the top of the cabinet.
8. Nail toe kick to the front of the plywood base.
9. Top the bridge cabinet with cut fridge panel and secure in place with screws, attaching from the inside of the cabinet.
10. Paint the interior of your cabinet in your chosen colour, to match your décor.
11. Add a seat cushion on top of your new bench for extra comfort.
12. Accent your storage bench with a decorative pillow and tuck shoes and boots beneath. Now you can enjoy how this piece boosts the style and functionality of your space.
