Celebrate Spring with Creative Birdhouse Planter Projects
Spring has sprung, so let’s celebrate!
Welcome the arrival of spring with birdhouse kits transformed into a vertical herb garden, a fresh floral centrepiece, and a welcoming front door.
What You’ll Need
• mitre saw 1347-117
• birdhouse kits from homehardware.ca 5458-293
• BeautiTone paint and/or stainoptional shingles
• 1” x 8” pine
• hot glue gun 2047-144
• glue sticks 2047-243
• non-toxic oil 4548-181
Here’s How
With the exception of the roofs, assemble the birdhouses according to instructions.
Note: The roofs do not use the upper supports.
Roofs
Cut out a section of the roofs for planting or floral arrangements. If hanging the birdhouses on a wall, fence, or door, ensure the roofs are flush to the backs with an overhang in the fronts.
Shingles (optional)
Make shingles from 2” length blanks of 1” x 8” pine. Set a compound mitre saw at 3 degrees and cut thin wedge slices across the 2” width, turning the blanks over after each cut.
Safety note: When the board gets to be 3” or 4” in length, discard and start a new blank. Use hot glue to attach shingles to roof. Treat shingles with non-toxic oil.
