Home Hardware Stores Recognized with 2021 Outstanding Retailer Awards

ST. JACOBS, ONTARIO – October 20, 2021 — Home Hardware Stores Limited is pleased to announce three Home Hardware stores have been recognized with a 2021 Outstanding Retailer Award. The awards were announced at the 25th Annual Hardlines Conference and Gala taking place October 19 to 20 at Queen’s Landing Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario and virtually online. 

Handed out by Hardlines Inc., the Outstanding Retailer Awards have recognized Canada’s best home improvement retailing stores for the past 29 years. This year, Home Hardware Dealers were honoured in three award categories, including: 
  • Best Hardware Store – Gravenhurst Home Hardware, Ian and Tara McNaughton, Dealer-Owners - Gravenhurst, Ontario. 
  • Best Building Supply/Home Centre (over 15,000 sq. ft.) – GrandErie Home Hardware Building Centre, Ken Zantingh, Henry Deklerk, Bert Mulder, Wes Zantingh and Nate Mulder, Dealer-Owners - Dunnville, Ontario. 
  • Independent Spirit Award – Annapolis Home Hardware Building Centre, Joanne and Rob Lawrie, Dealer-Owners - Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia.

All awards recipients are selected by a panel of industry experts who judged nominations from retailers across Canada on a range of criteria, including sales performance, retailing innovation and community involvement. 

Award categories include: Best Hardware Store; Best Building Supply/Home Centre (under 15,000 sq. ft.); Best Building Supply/Home Centre (over 15,000 sq. ft.); Best Contractor-Specialist Store; Best Young Retailer; Best Large Surface Retailer (over 65,000 sq. ft.); Marc Robichaud Community Leader; and the Independent Spirit award. 

“These three Home Hardware stores reflect a diversity of backgrounds and marketplaces, yet they all share a passion for retail and incredible connections with their customers and communities,” said Michael McLarney, President of Hardlines Inc. “These winners are truly outstanding and set new standards for excellence in retail.” 

Founded close to three decades ago and the only independent program in the industry, the Outstanding Retailer Awards (ORAs) are dedicated to celebrating the achievements of hardware, home improvement and building supply dealers in Canada. 

Over the past 29 years, Home Hardware stores have received close to 40 Outstanding Retailer Awards.
