Cover the framing of your interior walls and ceilings with drywall to create a clean slate. This common building material goes by many names—plasterboard, wallboard, sheet rock and gypsum panels, to name a few. But you can call it drywall. Because, unlike plaster, it’s installed without water. Drywall. Get it? Durable, affordable and relatively quick and easy to install, drywall has replaced plaster in most residential and commercial structures. New construction? Drywall. Finally finishing that extra bedroom in the basement? Drywall.
Installing ceramic tile in the shower? Opt for cement board to create a mold, mildew and rot-resistant base in high-moisture areas. For added durability and peace of mind, some drywall types are designed to be fire resistant. When it comes to drywall installation preparation is key. Along with sheet rock panels, you’ll want to stock up on supplies like joint compound, drywall tape, screws, drywall knives, corner beads, sandpaper and a T-square.
